Meet Your Aura

I remember many years ago going to a workshop that would teach us how to see auras. Most of the time was spent intently gazing at each other, trying desperately to see the elusive aura that was clearly not going to put in an appearance. We were warned that this skill might take many weeks and months to develop! This announcement put paid to any lingering wish to read people’s auras! But auras hold an exotic fascination and my interest was tweaked when I learned from the teachings of Kundalini Yoga that we actually have 10 bodies (yes ten). These comprise (apart from the physical body), three mental bodies (negative, positive and neutral mind) and the remainder are etheric or energy bodies.

The eight chakra, situated outside the physical body is the aura,

an electromagnetic field that surrounds the body. This last eighth chakra combines the effects of all the other seven with their specific situations within the body, starting at the base of the spine, the sacral or sex chakra, the naval, the heart, the throat, the brow (the third eye) and the crown. Each chakra has its own identifying colour. Starting at the base of the spine again; red, orange, yellow, green (sometimes with a tinge of pink), turquoise, indigo and purple. The aura contains all the colours to produce a pure white.

But what exactly does the aura do? If your health is good (and you eat all your broccoli !) you are guaranteed total protection. You’re protected physically, for instance from being mugged, or physically/mentally abused in any other way. You’re also protected from energetic disturbance from the negative behaviour of others.

All matter including people, animals, plants etc, have auras. It’s amazing to consider the extent of the many ways we have on each other. It amounts to true collaboration. The intricate web of body, mind and soul!

When we’re healthy, the aura appears round and symmetrical and has a glow of white light. When we’re sick it might appear to have dimples and pockets and has less light coming from it.

The quality of your aura reveals your personality in the projection of power or the depression of defeat. That must have a profound effect on how we appear to others. Imagine filling a room with your clear radiance, where your presence seems to work and thus direct many of the forces in the Universe to effortlessly fulfil your needs and desires. In this way we are all knowingly or unknowingly woven into the whole universe. Us finite beings are connected to the Infinite, lifetime after lifetime.

Further to this connectedness through our energy bodies, we have what is known as energy squares. These are situated in all the joints of the body; shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. So it’s makes good sense to give appropriate attention to our joint health. This is where Yin yoga steps gracefully into the picture.

Aside from this, there are also certain practices that help to clear and strengthen the radiance of our auras:

For almost 28 years I’ve been taking a cold shower in the mornings, summer and winter. There’s a particular procedure attached to Ishnaan, or the yogic equivalent of hydro therapy. The end benefit is similar to Ice immersions, only gentler. I would be delighted to unpack it for you in a separate blog.

Wearing of white clothing gives one a great feeling of elevation, clarity and radiance, and it goes without saying that a healthy lifestyle and a diet devoid of harmful ingredients will go a long way to strengthen and polish our collective auras. Included in that is the thought that our bodies are the temples of our souls. For me it makes me want to care for my body and have true collaboration of mind and body. It gives steadfastness.

In yoga it is thought that when we come into a new lifetime, we are given a certain number of breaths, and when we have breathed them, we depart, back into pure spirit. Our subtle bodies, including our auras, gently disengage from our physical bodies. Amen.

So on we go and over time you get drained if we don’t keep our auric body strong. So it’s important to hydrate - drink WATER, lots of it - WATER changes the emotions, for the better.

A person with a strong aura is very steady. Steady strong physical practice of something you love, yoga and Pilates, swimming and walking are excellent.

Cook and eat in a space of love. Honour the land and grow your own veggies.

I wish you a long and happy life.
